ADVICES
TIPS AND
ADVICES
About Russians
When Russians don't know a person they will seem closed, but they will seemed closed, but they will open up when they get to know you better.
If Russians don't smile or even seem gloomy, it doesn't mean that they don't like you or that they are not happy. Just Russians are not that emotional and smile not that often, bur when they do, it's totally sincere.
Russians are hospitable
Not all Russians drink alcocol and especially vodka
Most of Russians are polite, but be ready, that like in every country you can face to face with rude people
Rules
Be careful with your personal belongings. You need to use of lockers (individual cells) in hostels. In the flat apartment locked and outsiders cannot gain access to your things. Anyway, you need to take care about your things and not leave them without supervision.
Don't carry big sums of money with you
It's ok to be late for 5 - 15 minutes for informal meetings. Being late for work is not tolerated.
Always carry copies of your passport, visa and registration with you. Leave the originals in a safe place (home). There were many cases of lost passports and other documents. This will make your stay more problematic. Please, be careful with your documents and other personal belongings.
Souvenirs
You will participate in a cultural events, so please bring anything that will help you to represent you country as national costume, a flag any goods that will be of use to illustrate you culture and traditions.
Internship
Global Community Development Programme's main goal is to create a positive impact on society through working on relevant social issues. Please, make sure you understand the value and purpose of GCDP programmes before applying for this internship.
Please, remember, that Noone is more responsible for your experience than U are. LCs accumulate resources and create a comfortable base for your experience, but U are the final responsible for it.
- be proactive.
If you think you are working less than you could, ask for more work or do some extra work. If you think the place where you live is dirty, clean it. If you don't get enough activities or interaction with LC, organize some or ask people to join etc. always start with yourself.
- be positive
In first few days you will probably have cultural shock. However, do your best to be the positive, not to be rude to anyone. It takes big amount of time and effort to organize incoming internships. People from GCDPi worked really hard to make this internship possibe for you. And it really hurts if you go around offending people. If you encounter any inconvenience or problem during internship, ask yourself: can I change it by myself? And what can I do to change it? Then simply do it. If you can't change it all by yourself, ask us for help.
- be responsible with your work.
Do it on time, prepare materials and presentations in advance, don't skip your work. Think about the purpose of your internship and about the value of GCDP. Remember: you are coming here for the impact.
For all additional information, please contact your hosting LC.
SEE YOU IN RUSSIA!
